Rise of the Jejemons!

Jejemons are so popular today. It is now sort of a subculture. So how does this phenomenon start?

According to Wiki:

The origins of short-handed typing was through the short messaging service, in which each text message is limited to 160 characters. As a result, an “SMS language” developed in which words were shortened in order to fit the 160-character limit.

In the internet, the Jejemon phenomenon started in “early April.” On April 14, 2010 at Pinoy Tumblr, a post about vice presidential candidate Jejomar Binay indicating that he was the Jejemon’s preferred vice presidential candidate, complete with a fake poster with him called as “Jejemon Binay.” Later the use of word “Jejemon” to refer such people made rounds in various Filipino internet message boards.

Such short-handed language is not limited to Filipinos: Thais use “5555″ to denote “hahahaha,” since the number 5 in Thai language translate to “ha.”

The Jejemons are said to be the new “jologs”, a term used for Filipinos of the lower income class.

Accoring to Administrators and members of Gotta Kill ‘Em All (A facebook based group), Jejemon seem to agree that the term “jejemon” was first coined a month ago, but the behavior attributed to jejemon was around for much longer.

I agree to them, Jejemons have been around since people learn to text. Jejenese (Jejemon’s language) has originated on text speak. People shorten their text message due to limited space alloted, thus text-speak was born. And as time goes by people use text-speak differently (should I say more irritating) eventually it became Jejenese.

The way Jejemon’s writing their message is irritating, most of the time my head aches when I’m reading their text message. What more irritating is they found a new ground to invade. They’re now on Facebook, Multiply, Friendster, Tumblr and every social networking site you can imagine. They can also be found on different IMs’ like YM, MSN, etc, etc…

Here are some example how Jejemon speaks:

On AIM or YM:

miSzMaldiTahh111: EoW pFuOh!

You: Huh?

miszMaldiTahh111: i LLyK tO knOw moR3 bOut u, PwfoH. crE 2 t3ll mE yur N@me? jejejejeje!

You: You are a jejemon! Don’t talk to me, you uneducated retard!

miszMaldiTahh111: T_T

Are you one them? Jejejeje!
